LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) and HEPA filters have been used for many years for decontamination and sterilization. Its use has been concentrated in specific fields, such as, health care and the pharmaceutical industry. Air purification for commercial office buildings, hotels, schools, theaters, vehicles of transportation, residences, malls, and places of public gathering for work or pleasure has been passive. In the early 80’s, I specified 95 percent efficient filters for commercial buildings in my charge. This was initiated in response to asbestos and air-quality concerns.

My experience in the real estate industry spans 30 years in management, operation, and construction encompassing some 100,000,000 square feet. UVGI and filtering cannot be addressed without operational knowledge of the property being surveyed. Implementation of UVGI and filtration do not by themselves assure effective applications.

IBS, Inc. provides customized systems of filtration and UVGI for a specific property. W. J. Kowalski, PE, PhD – one of the foremost experts on control of airborne pathogens and design of immune building technologies – is Executive Vice President and an integral part of the company. HVAC Engineers, in coordination with W. J. Kowalski, will formulate a complete set of project as-built drawings for all fans and duct systems utilizing outside air based on a survey of outside air infiltration. I will work with Dr. Kowalski and the HVAC Engineers to effect practical operating components for a prospective installation, without which the most elaborate system will exhibit flaws rendering it comparable to a typical filtration system. UVGI systems will maintain clean cooling coils and increase efficiency with associated reduced operating costs. Again, operating cost savings are predicated on certain operating practices. A feasibility study assumes a level of operating expertise.

The current world situation necessitates the taking of precautionary measures to assure safety from biological agents. IBS, Inc. offers the most advanced design and analysis for protecting against biological weapon agents. The psychological effect afforded by this type of protection is obvious. It is comforting to work or live in an atmosphere of safety.
